Bangladesh vs India: BCCI to probe Pant-Litton spat that marred historic Test

A physical altercation between India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and Bangladesh batter Litton Das marred the historic first Test between both countries

Indian cricket authorities are set to investigate a physical altercation between wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant and Bangladesh batter Litton Das on the second day of the opening Test in Chattogram, sources said on Monday.

Pant and Litton had an on-field spat during India's second innings on Day 2, with images showing the two players engaged in a heated exchange and getting physical near the stumps.

The incident occurred after Pant was caught behind off the bowling of Taijul Islam for 93 and as he was walking back to the pavilion, he exchanged words with Litton. The situation escalated quickly, with both players pushing and shoving each other before teammates and umpires intervened to separate them.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the confrontation between Pant and Litton, but it is believed to have been related to an earlier incident in the match where Pant had appealed for a catch off Litton's bat, which was not given by the umpire.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a serious view of the incident and has ordered an investigation into the matter. A BCCI official said that the board will seek a report from the match referee and the team management before deciding on any further action.

The incident has cast a shadow over what was otherwise a historic Test match between India and Bangladesh. The match is the first Test between the two countries since 2015 and is also the first day-night Test match to be played in Bangladesh.

The match is currently evenly poised, with India leading by 87 runs with six wickets in hand at the end of Day 2. The third day's play will resume on Tuesday.
